Probiotics International

The company approached SWMAS for support as it looked to increase efficiency and implement process improvements in order to grow the business.

The Challenge:

Probiotics International Ltd manufactures a range of food and health food supplements, supplying the veterinary, human, agriculture and equine healthcare markets.

The company approached SWMAS for support as it looked to increase efficiency and implement process improvements in order to grow the business.

Probiotics’ products have to reach Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) accreditation, meaning they have to be manufactured to specific pharmaceutical standards.

This is particularly important to the company’s export partners across the world, where many of the products are considered medicinal.

“With a number of manufacturing lines for different products and equipment for different processes, we needed some guidance to ensure we were operating as efficiently as possible to reach the required standards,” said Toby.

SWMAS action:

“A number of our team leaders attended a SWMAS workshop on lean manufacturing where they were introduced to tools and techniques that enabled them to look at the business from a different perspective"

“They were able to visualise how significant improvements could be made through reduced changeover and cycle times and generally in how we do things as a business"

Results:

  • 40% increase in turnover

  • Exporting to over 50 countries

“The analysis of our processes identified equipment that was not operating as efficiently as it could and machinery that needed replacing"

“By eliminating waste we have also been able to make substantial savings and increased our staff’s confidence"

“We found SWMAS to be incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. We are continuing to implement improvements long after our project has finished, influenced by what we learned from SWMAS"

“We are already in discussions with MAS over another project we have in the pipeline and look forward to continuing to work closely with them moving forward,” said Toby.
