The Challenge:
Bini Ludlow, owner and founder of Radstock based, Bini Fine Foods that produce a range of authentic Indian ready meals contacted SWMAS after being referred via Heart of the South West Growth Hub.
Bini was researching the support available to manufacturing businesses such as hers that would enable her to expand the business and relocate to a dedicated production unit, which would allow them to increase the number of retail outlets they stocked, including luxury farm shops and delicatessens across the country.
SWMAS Action:
SWMAS introduced the Local Manufacturing Advisory Programme (LMAP) funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to Bini Fine Foods, designed to support established manufacturing SMEs in the South West to understand and develop their capability and capacity to improve and grow, as well offering capital expenditure grants.
Bini Fine Foods was awarded a grant of £2,500 towards the cost of supplying the new dedicated production unit with commercial cooking equipment, which would allow them to efficiently produce on a larger scale.
Results:
Bini Fine Foods are now based at a dedicated production unit, equipped with all the commercial catering kit they need. The new catering equipment allows them to produce meals 50 litres at a time, which has more than tripled their capacity.
They are now stocked in over 42 outlets throughout the UK and have received international interest from stockists in Sweden, Lithuania, and Puerto Rico.
Founder, Bini Ludlow, has made a number of TV appearances, as well as winning 11 industry awards.
Bini's main focus for the business in the next few years is to crack the international market and dreams of one day exporting her meals to India.
