J.Wippell and Co

This academic robe manufacturer and clerical outfitter saw an opportunity to help the current shortage of PPE and switch the focus of their production

J. Wippell and Co, a Devon-based manufacturer, have been working with SWMAS over the past year gaining support to tender for new contracts with a range of Universities, and develop their sustainability policies.

Recently, in response to the Government's urgent call for additional PPE equipment, they successfully transferred their capabilities to supply this alternative market.

By diversifying production, their team of skilled seamstresses are now manufacturing goods to be delivered to a local NHS provider.

New orders to adjust around 40,000 face masks and manufacture 400 sets of scrubs means they can continue production at a time where demand from their existing customer base has decreased.

SWMAS has continued helping J.Wippell and Co to identify further possibilities to supply more vital PPE to other customers in the South West.

It has been great to support J.Wippell and Co, helping them identify their strengths and unique selling points to give them a competitive edge. It is clear that sustainability is a growing interest area for their existing customers, so capturing the positive actions they are taking in this area has helped to strengthen their tender responses. The way they have adapted in order to support the NHS during the COVID-19 crisis has been incredible. J.Wippell and Co are one of the oldest businesses in Exeter and I hope the support provided by SWMAS has helped them secure a long future.
