Somerset Energy Innovation Centre

SWMAS leads the consortium that delivers the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre (SEIC).

The SEIC is a catalyst for collaboration and innovation, providing dynamic space and expert support to the businesses at the heart of the growing low carbon energy supply chain.

The Centre offers a flexible range of high quality office and meeting spaces along with a café and networking area.

We work directly with businesses moving into or already working in the low carbon market and seeking to supply into energy projects. Using our expertise, we advise and support companies to develop capability, innovate and form new partnerships.

All the businesses at the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre share the core value of openness to collaboration and innovation. Our ambition is to create a sustainable economic legacy through the growth of a South West low carbon energy cluster.

HISTORY

The state of the art Centre was commissioned and funded by Somerset County Council, with additional funding from the European Regional Development Fund. The initial phase of construction was completed in July 2015 and was finalised in 2016. More than just a building, the Centre is part of the South West’s long term economic vision and a key strategic investment in growing nuclear and renewable energy capability.

FACTS

The building is BREEAM Excellent, the highest environmental accreditation for new buildings and our operations are accredited to ISO 14001 and 9001.

Located five minutes from J23 of the M5, the Centre is just 12 miles from Europe’s largest construction project, Hinkley Point C (HPC) which represents a lifetime £40 billion investment and will supply up to 7% of the UK’s electricity demand.
