Supply Chain Development
21st Century Supply Chains: Aerospace and Defence

If your company manufactures for the aerospace and defence sectors in the South West, you can take advantage of a free, independent review, plus funding, to implement changes to improve your business.
SWMAS is working with the West of England Aerospace Forum (WEAF) to help aerospace and defence companies compete more effectively in the global marketplace. SWMAS is offering a free review to help companies identify areas for improvement and opportunities for innovation and to explore how supply chain communication and collaboration can be enhanced.
Already working closely with manufacturers from all sectors in the region, SWMAS helps companies improve their productivity and competitiveness. It was set up in 2002 to serve the 12,000 manufacturers in the South West that generate more than £11billion for the local economy and employ nearly 300,000 people.
Every day, across the region, SWMAS runs lean projects for manufacturers as well as tailor-made programmes such as the Strategic Management Programme (SMP) that enables senior managers to devise and implement strategies for growth and the Operational Leadership Programme (OLP) for front line managers.
The work of the Government’s manufacturing troubleshooters also supports the vision of Supply Chains for the 21st Century (SC21) – a nationwide strategy which is designed to ensure that UK supply chains remain competitive and deliver increased value to customers.

Industry leaders, such as Airbus, BAE Systems, Agusta Westland and Rolls Royce are already involved with Supply Chains for the 21st Century (SC21) and SWMAS is encouraging suppliers of these companies to also get involved. SC21 aims to remove duplication in the accreditation process, increase efficiency, remove waste and improve collaboration and innovation throughout the supply chain. There are a number of ways to get enrolled in SC21 either as part of an existing supply chain, as a network or cluster or as an individual business. Whichever route you take, SWMAS is on hand to deliver a free* SC21 readiness assessment and help you devise an action plan to get the ball rolling. *Notes on eligibility – SMEs can get a free readiness assessment and can access funding to support implementation for up to 20 days per year. ![]() IMPORTANT There is training, support and funding available to local businesses – all you need to do is realise the opportunity!
