Vision and Strategy

“The trusted provider of advice and hands-on support for manufacturers aiming to achieve sustainable success"

- Arthur Richardson, Chief Executive, SWMAS

Our goals for the South West Region

Set up to help manufacturing businesses improve productivity, reduce waste and compete more effectively, SWMAS aims to make a significant difference to these manufacturers.

We aim to achieve the following results for manufacturing businesses who have not used World Class manufacturing techniques:

* Improve staff productivity by 25%
* Increase stock turnover by 30%
* Improve equipment productivity by 25%
* Reduce scrap and defects by 50%
* Improve on-time delivery by 10%

We also aim to improve the confidence and sustainability of manufacturing businesses by helping them improve their own long-term performance and migrate from low value, labour intensive businesses to become high value-added, knowledge and technology based businesses.

Strategy

Customers

Our primary focus is on Small and Medium sized manufacturing businesses operating in the South West (you will often see these businesses referred to as small to medium enterprises or SMEs). We provide direct support the 3000 or so businesses employing between 10 and 250 people and our long-term goal is 100% engagement in this group. We work with larger enterprises, including those with non UK based parent companies on a commercial basis.

Partners

We work with a wide range of Partners, to ensure manufacturing businesses have access to the widest and most appropriate range of support which will enable them to grow and prosper. MAS seeks to add value and skills to the portfolio of our partners and proactively works to reduce duplication, waste and red-tape. Our key partners are shown here.

A significant element of the SWMAS portfolio is the MAS-SW, part of Solutions for Business, a package of publicly funded business support products and services designed to help businesses start, grow and succeed. Solutions for Business products are designed to equip businesses with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to tackle issues they might be facing

Learning and Growth

We recognise the changing needs of business and we aim to continuously develop our offerings and skills to meet these needs. We are proactive in developing and sharing our tools and knowledge within the team whilst drawing on appropriate external resource to develop the skills necessary for the effective delivery of SWMAS services.

Social responsibility

We aim to contribute to the communities within which we work through our client companies and direct with local schools and universities.

Environment

We make a positive impact on the enhancement and preservation of the environment through our work with businesses. We do this by encouraging businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and all forms of waste. We support businesses in the adoption and development of products and services which benefit the environment and we promote the South West as a leading manufacturing base for the design, development and production of Environmental Goods and Services.

Internal business processes

We strive to eliminate all forms of waste from our own business processes and our team members are home-based to allow us to operate without a dedicated building space. This significant saving in overheads allows us to invest a higher proportion of our financial resources into the development and delivery of front line support to business. It also ensures that we maintain excellent coverage and responsiveness across the entire region as our team members live in the areas they serve.

Financial

We create a solid financial foundation to our organisation by initiating and developing mutually value-added relationships with our clients, funders and partners, providing some elements of service on a free of charge basis, whilst our more significant services are chargeable. We provide funded support, where available, and we aim to remove all bureaucracy and red-tape from the process.
