Board Member
Stuart brings a real insight into the management, leadership and workings of SME companies in the South West. Having joined the SWMAS Board in 2008, he is a specialist in general management, marketing and business development with board level experience in operations, including full profit responsibility for public sector and private companies both in the UK and overseas. He has worked within the electronics, aerospace and industrial engineering markets, gaining wide experience with major industry leading companies and SMEs in the UK, USA, Europe and the Far East.
Since 2007 Stuart has held the position of Services Development Director at Peninsula Enterprise (a Serco Group division) delivering the Business Link, Train to Gain, UKTI, and European contracts for business support in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. With a turnover of £17 million and 190 staff, he is responsible for Planning; Bid Management and Funding; New and Existing Product/Service Development and Introduction; Business Intelligence and Information and Communications Technologies.
Prior to this, from 2000, he was Director of Operations at Business Link Somerset where he was part of the successful bid team, in partnership with Serco, which was awarded the contract for business support in Somerset, Devon & Cornwall for the three year period to March 2010.
For the previous nine years he was Managing Director for Mainsale International Consultancy in Crewkerne, where his role as consultant to Business Link offices in Somerset provided Business Reviews for SMEs, training at management courses and management of UK sales activities for clients based overseas and in the UK through professionally qualified field sales associates.
Previous roles included 15 years as Divisional Executive at Normalair-Garrett Ltd (Augusta Westland Group), Aerospace & Defence Product Manufacturers, Yeovil in Somerset and 13 years as Area Manager at Houseman Ltd (Portals Group) water treatment chemicals and plant in Burnham, Bucks.
