Brian Phillips
Board Member
Joining the Board in 2003, Brian’s extensive background in industry contributes a leading edge currency around finance and commerce to the team. Brian challenges the business to continually move forward and strongly champions the voice of the customer.
Brian is educated to PhD level in electronic engineering and his industrial career has been centred on setting up and growing electronic design and manufacturing companies at SME level.
He is currently Managing Director of the Chelsea Technologies Group that has UK and international interests spanning marine engineering, defence, homeland security and life science.
Throughout his career he has been employed by several large electronic engineering companies but has also founded and managed two companies from start-up to maturity. The first, Bell Electronics Ltd, grew to employ nearly 80 staff within five years. The company was floated on the Unlisted Securities Market in 1982 and three years later was sold to Ferranti PLC. The second start up, Marine Acoustics Ltd, employed nearly 40 people after 10 years of trading before being sold to CTG in December 2001.
Through an involvement in Government funded, technology stimulation and innovation programmes, Brian was invited to join the Board of Business Link Berkshire and Wiltshire as a non-executive shortly after its formation.
Extension of this role led to him taking up directorships of GWE Ltd (now GWE BusinessWest Ltd) and GWE Holdings Ltd and then a seat on the board of Northern Arc Ltd, the Business Link operator for the Northern Zone of the South West Region.
