Phil Townsend

North Team Manager and Manufacturing Specialist

Phil Townsend is a manufacturing graduate from Cranfield University and joined us as our Manufacturing Specialist adviser for the west region. Phil has 15 years operational management and leadership experience from a diverse range of manufacturing businesses.

Before joining SWMAS Phil managed operations for Dyson Ltd in their £25 million washing machine and injection moulding facility. He is an acknowledged change agent with a proven track record of driving continuous improvement through the application of lean manufacturing practices.

Before joining Wiltshire-based Dyson, Phil, who also has a post graduate diploma in management studies from the University of the West of England, was manufacturing manager at Linde UK, Radford Retail Systems in Bristol. He was recruited by management consultants to functionally manage all manufacturing operations associated with a £20 million turnover site, producing large commercial refrigerated display units.

Prior to this, he was manufacturing unit manager for Bristol Bending Ltd, where he managed five diverse manufacturing cells and all production engineering activities associated with a company producing high volume automotive brake, power and steering pipes for Nissan, Honda, Volvo and TRW.
