Charles Hill

South Team Manager and Manufacturing Specialist

Charles Hill, a chartered mechanical engineer, joined South West MAS in 2002, and has since worked with over 150 SME companies in the region.

After graduating from Brunel University in the early 1990’s Charles joined Carnaudmetalbox in Poole, where he had several roles including project manager with responsibility for the installation of high speed production lines and continuous improvement manager responsible for rolling out TPM and lean improvements across the site.

Prior to joining South West MAS Charles worked for BFF Nonwovens in Bridgwater as Engineering Manager where he was involved with major capital projects to update and install new machinery for the production of nonwoven fabrics for the consumer, medical, automotive and clothing markets.

During his time with South West MAS Charles has continued to work closely with Bath University on their research into improving changeover performance, which goes beyond the SMED system by exploring the role of engineering design to enhance changeovers.

Also, he has become a green belt in six sigma, successfully completed an introduction to teaching course and is presently completing a BIT NVQ level 4.
