Brian Phillips

Board Member

Dr Brian Phillips, has a strong background in Sonar Signal Processing and has a distinguished career including numerous directorships and Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Dr Phillips is currently Managing Director Chelsea Technologies Group (CTG) Ltd. CTG’s business is the design and manufacture of products for the marine and diagnostic medical markets. The groups operating companies have technical knowledge and expertise spanning optical and acoustic sensors, electronic hardware and software engineering plus mechanical design incorporating the very latest 3-D CAD and prototyping tools. The fifty strong workforce includes all the necessary skills to conceive, design, manufacture and support our own products. The business spans one off equipment supply to customer’s specification through to small and medium batch manufacture in quantities up to several thousand units.

During his career he has been employed by several large electronic engineering companies but has also founded and led two companies from start-up to maturity. The first, Bell Electronics Ltd, grew to employ nearly eighty staff within five years. The company was floated on the Unlisted Securities Market in 1982 and three years later was sold to Ferranti PLC. The second start up, Marine Acoustics Ltd, employed nearly forty people after ten years of trading before being sold to CTG in December 2001.

Dr Phillips has maintained a hands-on approach to all aspects of the design and manufacturing process during his career.
