MAS sparks young imaginations at Royal Bath & West Show

17th Jul 2008

The MAS’ stand at Imagineering saw hundreds of young people taking part in the new Pendulum Challenge and discovering first hand the fun of practical problem-solving. Designed to inspire the next generation of manufacturers and innovators, the activity on the stand was described as ‘deceptively simple’ by the organisers.

Imagineering, one of the major attractions at the Royal Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet, is organised by the Imagineering Foundation, an education charity set up to introduce 8-16 year olds to the world of engineering and encourage them to get involved.

Visitor figures to the Fair this year surpassed any previous year with 21,000 visits over the four days and special activities have been organised by some of the UK’s most prestigious companies and organisations.

Jason Loomes, South West MAS specialist, said: “The aim of Imagineering is to learn by doing and it is a great way to get children and young adults interested in science and engineering. This year the MAS team introduced a new activity, the Pendulum Challenge, to the stand and the feedback we received was excellent. Although these activities are aimed at taking a fun approach to the world of manufacturing and sparking interest amongst youngsters, they also involve a number of key skills relevant to the workplace.”
